Résumé
Andrew Sammons
Independent Artist – Computer Information Systems Specialist – Technical Writer –
I’m a journeyman with an enormous range of skills and experiences. I have worked in several different industries and with the government, with varying degrees of responsibility and security clearance level. I am building a personal website and brand as an artist, while applying my skills as a strong contributor to team projects. I build new skills extremely quickly; integrate, communicate, and develop work relationships at a high level; and bring positivity, a personal growth mindset, and lots of passion to my projects.
My early career was spent in food service, where I advanced over time to management positions with Einstein Bros. Bagels and later Dominos Pizza. I retain many food preparation skills, and use soft skills developed as a manager daily for both work and personal development. I take special pride in skills like communication, team building, and time management that I built during my years in food service.
I am an expert driver with more than 20,000 hours, 150,000 miles, and 10,000 deliveries behind the wheel over a decade as a courier. I began driving professionally with Dominos in 2016. I transitioned away from working in-store to doing gig delivery with Uber Eats in 2020, following the local shutdown of in-person dining. I have been delivering with Uber as a part-time supplement to my income ever since, with occasional periods of full time driving between other employment opportunities.
In late 2022, I moved back to the Kansas City area after living in Texas for four years. I had previously attended college at Austin Community College, and made the decision at that time to transition fully away from food service.
I began working part-time with the Lawrence Public School District (USD497) in August of 2023 as the Library assistant. My time with the school was wonderful, and I built a number of strong personal and professional connections there. It’s difficult to describe how much I was changed by working with so many wonderful kids. My role description was fairly limited, but I put a lot of effort into going well beyond the basic boundaries of my job. Every class in the school spent time in the library on a regular basis, and I wound up spending a lot of that time with the more disruptive kids and the kids with higher classroom needs. I got the opportunity to help some kids who made real gains over the year, and I feel very lucky to have made those friendships. It also happened that I was among four employees at the school with a high degree of confidence working with technology, and I quickly became the main on-site technology support for the entire 60 person staff and 600 student class. I remained with the district until the end of the school year in May of 2024, and I count it as my best work experience so far, but both wages and hours for the role I was in are very limited, and the strain on my resources was not tenable long term.
During my time with the school, I secured a role with the State of Kansas as an Environmental Associate with the Department of Health and Environment, working in the Bureau of Water. I began working there in June of 2024. My time with the State was very tumultuous, but I remain proud of the work I did and my personal level of commitment and effort while I was there. Unfortunately, internal turnover of several management level positions left me in a strange position without guidance going into my contract renewal. I was very dissatisfied with the level of communication and consideration given to me by the people who would take over my supervision, and resigned in October of 2024.
In the time since I left KDHE, I have been continuing to work on developing skills that make me a valuable team contributor, including the web development skills necessary to make this site, the digital art skills necessary to translate my vision into reality, and the soft skills necessary to build a small but engaged online following and a small but tightly-knit personal community. I have also continued to work part-time with Uber Eats, marking my fifth year of continuous employment, strong customer service success, and maintenance of driving record, insurance, and vehicle condition.
If you’re reading this resumé, it is likely that you are considering me for employment or collaboration. I hope that you found my personal journey as a worker informative in your decisionmaking process, and I’m grateful that you took this time to learn about me! Feel free to reach out via email with questions or comments.
This page, this website, my portfolio, and my work experiences will continue to grow and change. If an opportunity you think I’m a match for comes up, check back again some time to see what’s new!
As always, have a nice day!
